I have received an offer letter from a university before hearing your decision, and I need to respond, what should I do?
You need to send the offer letter to us, and we will forward it to the relevant authority in the Ministry of Education
What do I have to do when I lose my passport?
You must report it to the nearest police station and then inform the Students Unit by submitting a letter together with the crime report. The Brunei High Commission will then issue an Emergency passport which is only valid for returning journey to Brunei.
Is it possible to transfer to a different programme or change College/ University?
Students are not allowed to transfer their program or change their college/university without prior approval of the Ministry of Education. However, if there is a need to do so due to unavoidable circumstances, do write to us stating your reasons for doing so and we will forward you application to the Ministry of Education for approval. Such request must be accompanied by support/recommendation letter from the college/university.
Can I get involved in any religious activities at my university?
All students are strongly advised not to join or get involved with any religious activities. Any student who gets involved will have their scholarship reviewed. Their scholarship may also be terminated if they fail to attend lectures/classes at their university
What is an Educational visit allowance? How do I apply for it?
All final year students are entitled to claim the Educational visit allowance. It is only given once to those students who have passed their final year exams. To apply for the allowance, you are required to write a letter and a short paragraph of your visit, to any place of interest inside or outside UK , to the Director of Studies
What do I do, if at the beginning of the new academic year I haven't received my allowance?
Every new academic year, all students must submit to the Students Unit an ASF 2 Form and their result transcript. The allowance will not be activated unless Students Unit has received both documents.
Can I apply in advance for my allowance so I can buy an air ticket?
Any request for an advance in allowance to buy a ticket home for the Summer holidays will not be entertained.
What do I do with the request for tuition fees sent to me?
New Students are given a financial guarantee letter at the beginning of every academic year. The financial guarantee letter ensures that requests for tuition fees will be sent to Students Unit so the letter must be submitted during registration. For students continuing with their studies, a request can be made for a financial guarantee letter. Students can also just forward the request for fees to the Students Unit.
I have claimed for reimbursement, how long will it take to be reimbursed?
It will take at least 2-3 weeks for any claim to be processed. All claims must be submitted with the original receipts and proper/relevant documents.
Can I claim for reimbursement of my 'field trip'?
Reimbursement is only available if the field trip is compulsory and it is a requirement of the course. The amount will then be reimbursed into your account. Your request must be supported by a letter from your school/ university. Any other request for reimbursement of a 'field trip' will not be accepted.
What is a biennial leave? Am I entitled to it?
A biennial leave is the free passage given every two years to a scholarship student. Any student who is awarded a scholarship during the second year of her study, will not be entitled to biennial leave.
I am entitled for biennial leave and have sent the RBA booking form to Students Unit, how do I know if my booking is confirmed?
We will book the flight as soon as we have received the booking form. All the bookings should be considered as confirmed. If the flight is fully booked, only then will we contact you to change the date of the booking. The tickets will be issued 2 weeks before the departure date
I am entitled for free passage (biennial leave), can I use other airline instead of RBA?
Any student who is entitled to free passage should use our national carrier.
What must I do if I have to resit some of my modules?
You have to make the necessary arrangements with your university. Most universities require students to return to UK for the resits in August. All students are strongly advised to return to Brunei only after the results are announced to avoid any difficulties in arranging the resit and unnecessary expenses.
What will happen if I fail my exam but the university has allowed me to repeat the academic year?
You must write to Students Unit requesting permission to repeat. We will forward the letter to the MOE for their approval. The approval will depend on your Academic Report (which will include your attendance and your general attitude towards your studies). You must also submit a recommendation/support letter from your personal tutor.
What will happen if I fail my repeat year?
Your scholarship will be automatically terminated and you must return to Brunei . You will be entitled to a one way ticket to Brunei and shipment of personal effects. You must report to the Scholarship Section one week after you arrive in Brunei .
Do I need to report to the Ministry of Education when I arrive in Brunei during the holidays?
All scholarship students must report to the Ministry of Education within one week of their arrival back to Brunei
Do I have to inform the Students unit if I am going away for a break during the term holidays?
Students who are going on holiday outside UK must inform the Students Unit. In cases of emergency, it is essential that the Students Unit is aware of the student's whereabouts.
